Three hypothesis algorithm with occlusion reasoning for multiple people tracking

    Get PDF
This work proposes a detection-based tracking algorithm able to locate and keep the identity of multiple people, who may be occluded, in uncontrolled stationary environments. Our algorithm builds a tracking graph that models spatio-temporal relationships among attributes of interacting people to predict and resolve partial and total occlusions. When a total occlusion occurs, the algorithm generates various hypotheses about the location of the occluded person considering three cases: (a) the person keeps the same direction and speed, (b) the person follows the direction and speed of the occluder, and (c) the person remains motionless during occlusion. By analyzing the graph, our algorithm can detect trajectories produced by false alarms and estimate the location of missing or occluded people. Our algorithm performs acceptably under complex conditions, such as partial visibility of individuals getting inside or outside the scene, continuous interactions and occlusions among people, wrong or missing information on the detection of persons, as well as variation of the person’s appearance due to illumination changes and background-clutter distracters. Our algorithm was evaluated on test sequences in the field of intelligent surveillance achieving an overall precision of 93%. Results show that our tracking algorithm outperforms even trajectory-based state-of-the-art algorithms

ON THE ASSIMILATION OF GNSS PWV MEASUREMENTS IN HEAVY TO TORRENTIAL RAIN EVENTS IN DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES

A standalone Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver was utilized in this study to get a measure of the atmospheric water vapor in Davao City, Philippines. It aims to monitor the variability of GNSS precipitable water vapor (PWV) especially during heavy to torrential rain. The results of the study showed a positive correlation between GNSS-PWV and precipitation especially in these severe (heavy to torrential) rain events which implies that the assimilation of atmospheric water vapor measurements can improve forecasts of such events

EL EMPRESARIADO COMO FUENTE DE LA SEGREGACION POR SEXO

    Get PDF

In vitro biocompatibility and electrical stability of thick-film platinum/gold alloy electrodes printed on alumina

OBJECTIVE: High-density electrode arrays are a powerful tool in both clinical neuroscience and basic research. However, current manufacturing techniques require the use of specialised techniques and equipment, which are available to few labs. We have developed a high-density electrode array with customisable design, manufactured using simple printing techniques and with commercially available materials. APPROACH: Electrode arrays were manufactured by thick-film printing a platinum-gold alloy (Pt/Au) and an insulating dielectric on 96% alumina ceramic plates. Arrays were conditioned in serum and serum-free conditions, with and without 1kHz, 200µA, charge balanced stimulation for up to 21 days. Array biocompatibility was assessed using an extract assay and a PC-12 cell contact assay. Electrode impedance, charge storage capacity and charge injection capacity were before and after array conditioning. MAIN RESULTS: The manufactured Pt/Au electrodes have a highly porous surface and exhibit electrical properties comparable to arrays manufactured using alternative techniques. Materials used in array manufacture were found to be non-toxic to L929 fibroblasts by extract assay, and neuronal-like PC-12 cells adhered and extended neurites on the array surfaces. Arrays remained functional after long-term delivery of electrical pulses while exposed to protein-rich environments. Charge storage capacities and charge injection capacities increased following stimulation accounted for by an increase in surface index (real surface area) observed by vertical scanning interferometry. Further, we observed accumulation of proteins at the electrode sites following conditioning in the presence of serum. SIGNIFICANCE: This study demonstrates the in vitro biocompatibility of commercially available thick-film printing materials. The printing technique is both simple and versatile, with layouts readily modified to produce customized electrode arrays. Thick-film electrode arrays are an attractive tool that may be implemented for general tissue engineering and neuroscience research

HoloTrap: Interactive hologram design for multiple dynamic optical trapping

    Get PDF
This work presents an application that generates real-time holograms to be displayed on a holographic optical tweezers setup; a technique that allows the manipulation of particles in the range from micrometres to nanometres. The software is written in Java, and uses random binary masks to generate the holograms. It allows customization of several parameters that are dependent on the experimental setup, such as the specific characteristics of the device displaying the hologram, or the presence of aberrations. We evaluate the software's performance and conclude that real-time interaction is achieved. We give our experimental results from manipulating 5 micron-diametre microspheres using the program.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figure

Design strategies for optimizing holographic optical tweezers setups

We provide a detailed account of the construction of a system of holographic optical tweezers. While much information is available on the design, alignment and calibration of other optical trapping configurations, those based on holography are relatively poorly described. Inclusion of a spatial light modulator in the setup gives rise to particular design trade-offs and constraints, and the system benefits from specific optimization strategies, which we discuss.Comment: 16 pages, 15 figure
